Staff at Vectair’s EMEA Head Office in Hampshire, UK, held a Bake Off Day on Wednesday 16th October in aid of Gambian Projects Overseas. Regularly organized by Sara Balbuena, part of Vectair’s UK Sales & Customer Support team, Vectair staff regularly hold ‘bake offs’ and bake delicious cakes in aid of various charities, both local and international. This month, for their charity day, Vectair staff chose one that’s very close to a particular Vectair employee’s heart, Gambian Projects Overseas.
Will Skinner, UK Technical Sales Manager for Vectair Systems, is a regular visitor to Gambia, more specifically an area called ‘Sinchu Balia’, to help with the charities overall aims. Gambian Projects Overseas main aim is ‘Education for All’. They would like to advance the education of pupils in Gambia by building and maintaining educational facilities, provide educational resources and support the training of teachers, particularly vital in the area.
About Gambian Projects Overseas
A small group of 10 adults and children travelled out to The Gambia in 2003 to visit a nursery school in the district of Sinchu Balia. Such was the impact of their visit that many others have been regular travellers there ever since. In 2005/2006 a new school was built in Sinchu Balia to accommodate the ever increasing need for Early Learning Facilities in the country. Gambian Projects Overseas was formed by a collection of like minded friends to carry on supporting this school and other projects all over The Gambia. The charity have been involved in the construction and maintenance of schools, electricity and water supply, solar energy supply, small business support, teacher training, sponsorship, IT resource and training (including computer donations).
Vectair staff make a difference
The ‘donations for doughnuts’ and other baked goodies helped raise enough money that will help go towards or pay for strip-lighting and a fan for the school classrooms. Will Skinner, speaking after the bake off, said:
“Thank you for all your donations yesterday it very kind of you all. A party will be on their way to the school in Gambia in November, and the money will go toward the strip lights needed in the two class rooms built earlier this year and any money left will go towards the fans to keep the class room cool. David (Bennie) will be going, and will send back photo’s for us”.
