As a manufacturer of a number of hygiene products worldwide, supplying to in excess of 120 countries, Vectair Systems are preparing for a big change in the way product labels for chemical items are displayed. In all European Union Countries and the UK, products are being prepared according to the CLP Regulations, which adopts the Global Harmonized System – the classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS).
In the USA, our products will be following the GHS regulations, almost three years after OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) moved to adopt the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.
GHS is a voluntary agreement and has to be adopted by suitable regional or national legal mechanisms to ensure the initiative becomes legally binding. The duties fall on the manufacturers and suppliers, with broadly the same classifications, labelling and packaging. From June 2015, updated regulations will be applied directly on all EU members, including the United Kingdom.
The rules each member has to follow when they are classifying a chemical product will change, and a new set of hazard icons and drawings will be used.
For more information on the Globally Harmonized System and how it might affect you, visit the Health and Safety Executive website for more details.
You can choose to view the North American version of the site or remain on the EMEA version by choosing one of the options below.
